Pakistan's Foreign Minister Qureshi Extends Invitations to SCO Member Nations to Participate in CPEC

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, in an exclusive interview with Sputnik, extended an invitation to members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to invest in the transformative China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Qureshi emphasized that the CPEC held the potential for a manifold increase in trade for the Central Asian republics.

Qureshi sees the CPEC as a game-changing project with benefits extending beyond China and Pakistan, benefiting the entire region. He expressed optimism about the numerous opportunities along the economic corridor, where special economic zones are being established. During the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers Meeting, he proposed that all member states explore these opportunities for investment and development.

With the ongoing development of the deep-sea Gwadar port, the region, particularly the landlocked Central Asian republics, stands to reap significant gains. The port's strategic location offers these countries a shortcut to global markets, potentially boosting their trade volumes substantially.

The CPEC, a massive $46 billion infrastructure project backed by China, aims to enhance regional connectivity by linking the Pakistani port city of Gwadar with China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region through a network of transportation routes.

Moving to a different context, as of September 15, 2020, Gwadar's seaport was adorned with posters and billboards, reflecting the deep affection and camaraderie between China and Pakistan. According to a report by Gwadar Pro, these posters, which mostly depict scenic views and inspirational quotes, have become an integral part of the Gwadar landscape.

Gwadar Port, while not densely populated, boasts unremarkable buildings adorned with these "Chicken Soup for the Soul" posters. They grace the walls, billboards, parterre steps, and even steel tube railings throughout the port area. There are approximately 50 of these posters on fewer than 10 buildings, featuring proverbs, adages, and catchy phrases.

These posters symbolize the sincerity and dedication of the people of Gwadar towards their home and the burgeoning development in the area. The most prominent of these posters can be found on the main road leading to Gwadar Port, featuring the heartfelt message: "The flower’s every inch; Please see; Please love; Please care by Zhang Yanmei" (located at the Business Center of China Communication Construction Company).

Among the busiest spots for these posters is the Gwadar Port security checkpoint, where 36 posters adorn the area. Even the Port House, where staff from China Overseas Ports Holding Company Pakistan reside, proudly displays these posters, underscoring the depth of the China-Pakistan friendship: "China and Pakistan friendship is deep as the depth of the Pacific and Atlantic oceans."
