President Dr. Arif Alvi emphasized the pivotal role of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong at Aiwan-e-Sadr. He highlighted the project's strategic significance, encompassing economic, financial, logistical, and connectivity benefits for both Pakistan and China, as well as neighboring nations.
President Alvi extended an open invitation for other countries to collaborate and reap the rewards of this transformative initiative. He underscored the importance of fully operationalizing CPEC and its planned Special Economic Zones (SEZs). Encouraging the Chinese IT sector's investment in SEZs, he highlighted Pakistan's cost-effective workforce and tax incentives as appealing prospects.
Regarding the safety and security of Chinese workers and nationals, President Alvi assured that Pakistan had taken concrete measures. He acknowledged China's significant regional role and emphasized the need for close cooperation in marketing JF-17 aircraft globally, expediting their export.
In addition, President Alvi proposed exploring the use of local currency for bilateral trade and investment, envisioning cost reduction and increased trade and investment volume and quality between the two nations. This forward-looking approach aims to strengthen the partnership's economic foundations.
