President Dr. Arif Alvi visited the Chinese Embassy on Tuesday to offer his sincere condolences, representing both the Government of Pakistan and its people, in the wake of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin's passing.
In the condolence book, President Alvi expressed profound sadness and sympathy, extending his heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Jiang's family, friends, and the entire Chinese populace. Jiang Zemin, the former President of the People's Republic of China and General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, was honored in this gesture.
Following this, President Alvi extended his condolences to Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong, lauding Jiang Zemin as an extraordinary leader, visionary, and statesman. He emphasized Jiang's substantial contributions to global peace and stability at various levels—bilateral, regional, and international, according to the President Secretariat Press Wing.
President Alvi emphasized Jiang Zemin's role as a close and trusted ally of Pakistan, emphasizing his invaluable contributions to fortify the enduring, strategic, and cooperative friendship between the two nations. He underlined the bedrock of the Pakistan-China relationship, characterized by unwavering trust, deep understanding, strategic communication, and extensive practical collaboration.
Gratefully, President Alvi acknowledged China's substantial and meaningful support during both the COVID-19 pandemic and the catastrophic climate-induced super floods that ravaged Pakistan. These events resulted in significant loss of life, livelihood, livestock, and infrastructure damage. He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to the successful execution of projects within the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), highlighting its transformative impact on Pakistan's economic landscape.
In his remarks, President Alvi emphasized the pivotal role of CPEC, a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), in reshaping Pakistan's economic prospects. He expressed hope that the rapid development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) would invigorate investment inflows and maintain a position of high priority.
Concluding his official statements to Pakistani and Chinese media, President Alvi reiterated his heartfelt condolences over the loss of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin. He emphasized China's growing significance in today's dynamic world, particularly regarding global and regional economic stability and enduring peace.
