The New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) has recently achieved a significant milestone with the introduction of night landing capabilities by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). This development is set to bolster the airport's operational capacities and address the rising demand for air travel in the area.
In a recent announcement, the CAA issued a directive to airlines and aviation companies, mandating the implementation of night landing at NGIA until September 2023. The directive stipulates that aircraft won't be allowed to park during nighttime hours.
While these restrictions apply to most flights, exceptions have been made for military and government aircraft operated by the province of Balochistan. These specific flights will be granted exclusive permission to utilize the airport during the night, with the responsibility for their security arrangements lying squarely on their shoulders.
The NGIA project, with an estimated budget of $230 million, became a reality through funding from the Chinese government as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative. This colossal project aims to bolster economic ties between the two nations. The airport's construction began on October 31, 2019, representing a testament to the robust collaboration between China and Pakistan.
The groundbreaking ceremony, a momentous event, was held on March 29, 2019, and had the honor of being attended by the then-prime minister, Imran Khan.
The Aviation Division was entrusted with the responsibility for executing the Gwadar International Airport project, ensuring efficient coordination across all aspects.
Anticipation runs high for the airport's completion and the accompanying facilities designed to accommodate various aircraft, including ATR 72, Airbus A-300, Boeing B-737, and Boeing B-747, serving both domestic and international routes. According to the CPEC portal, the project is on track to meet its expected completion date in March 2023.
The New Gwadar International Airport is poised to become a pivotal hub, fostering increased connectivity and driving economic growth in the region.
