China has provided early warning system equipment to Gwadar port as part of a collaboration between the China Meteorological Administration and the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). This initiative aims to bolster the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor's capacity for managing major meteorological disasters under the Belt and Road Initiative.
China Meteorological Administration is also aiding PMD in enhancing its institutional capabilities to address emerging hydro-meteorological challenges.
Recently, Gwadar was declared a calamity-hit area following severe rains. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the city, which suffered extensive damage due to storms.
Approximately 3,100 houses in Gwadar and 2,500 in Jiwani were destroyed, with 95 houses completely demolished and nearly 200 livestock lost.
Officials reported that 355 individuals were housed in government facilities, while 800 were rescued and relocated to relatives’ homes. The Pakistan Army and Navy established hospital camps to provide healthcare to the affected.
