Landmark Moment: Inaugural Shipment Reaches Pakistan via Novel Road Trade Agreement with China

Pakistan and China have inaugurated a groundbreaking international road transport trade route as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This initiative, which coincided with the 10th anniversary of the CPEC project, signifies a momentous leap forward in bolstering cross-border trade and connectivity between the two nations.

The inaugural shipment, orchestrated by China, has triumphantly reached the Khunjerab Border, marking the commencement of cargo transit towards Afghanistan via the Karakoram Highway (KKH). This milestone solidifies economic ties between Pakistan and China while providing a vital land route for linking Central Asian nations.

To ensure efficient and secure cross-border shipments, the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) of Pakistan and Chinese firm Siva Logistics have initiated collaborative transit trade operations. The adoption of the United Nations International Road Transport Convention (TIR) streamlines customs procedures, expediting the movement of goods across borders.

In a strategic move, the Chinese government has designated Kashgar as a national logistics hub for 2023, underscoring its pivotal role in facilitating international trade.

This significant development has been warmly embraced by the local population of Gilgit-Baltistan, coinciding with the commencement of international flights from Skardu International Airport, further enhancing the region's connectivity and trade prospects.
