Pakistan-China Collaboration Establishes Karakoram Research Hub

Karakoram International University (KIU) and the China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre (CPJRC) have signed a Document of Understanding (DoU) to establish the Karakoram Observation and Research Station on Natural Hazards and Environment (KORS). This initiative is part of a Pakistan government-approved project under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP). The signing ceremony and panel discussion took place at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Chengdu, China, on February 19. Engr. Professor Dr. Attaullah Shah, Vice-Chancellor of KIU, and Prof. Su Lijun, Director-General of CPJRC, formalized the agreement to create a state-of-the-art research center at KIU. This collaboration aims to facilitate cutting-edge research on environmental and natural hazard challenges, bringing together experts from both countries. The Karakoram Research Station will serve as a hub for scientific studies, focusing on risk assessment, disaster mitigation, and environmental sustainability in the region.
