In the first 11 months of 2024, Pakistan’s sports goods exports to China grew by 7%, with basketballs, footballs, and volleyballs worth $10.7 million being imported. This marks a 6.68% increase over the same period in the previous year, reflecting the rising demand for high-quality sports goods from Pakistan in China.
This boost in exports emphasizes Pakistan’s growing recognition as a hub for premium sports goods, with a particular focus on footballs, basketballs, and volleyballs. Pakistan's rich history of producing high-quality sporting equipment, especially in Sialkot, is a key factor contributing to this growth. The expertise of Pakistani artisans and the country’s long-standing tradition of sports manufacturing continue to enhance the appeal of these goods in international markets.
Despite the industry’s challenges, including limited access to global markets, Pakistan now has a major opportunity to expand its influence, particularly with China as a key trading partner. China’s robust economy, technological advancements, and vast trade network provide ideal conditions for Pakistan’s sports goods industry to thrive.
As China continues to prioritize sports and fitness through government-backed initiatives and a growing health-conscious middle class, the demand for high-quality sporting equipment, including footballs and volleyballs, is rising. This trend is bolstered by grassroots sports programs and preparations for major events, fueling interest in Pakistani sports goods.
Sheikh Mohammad Shariq, chief representative at the National Bank of Pakistan in China, highlighted the expanding sports culture in China, which is contributing to a booming market for Pakistan’s products. This growth is seen as a significant step forward in the economic ties between the two nations, particularly under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor framework.
