An international conference titled "Charting the Future of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and the Belt & Road Initiative" is currently underway in Islamabad. This two-day event aims to delve into opportunities for bolstered collaboration, sustainable progress, and inclusive development in the next phase of CPEC.
Addressing the gathering, Ms. Pang Chunxue, the Chinese Charge Affaires to Pakistan, highlighted the remarkable growth in cooperation between Pakistan and China within the context of CPEC. She particularly noted the substantial advancements in Gwadar, which has now reached full operational capacity. Furthermore, she disclosed that the forthcoming year would see the completion of significant projects such as the Gwadar International Airport, a desalination plant, and the Pakistan-China Friendship Hospital, all contributing to the city's transformation into a logistics hub and industrial base.
Ms. Pang Chunxue also emphasized the pivotal role of industrial cooperation in the project's second phase of high-quality development. She underscored the importance of the signed CPEC framework agreement and the establishment of a new joint working group focused on mining. Additionally, she announced the successful completion of the first phase of the Rashakai Special Economic Zone.
In addition to these milestones, the CPEC has played a substantial role in addressing Pakistan's power shortages, with fourteen power projects now operational, boasting a total installed capacity of eight thousand megawatts. The progress in infrastructure development under the CPEC was also acknowledged as a significant achievement during her address.
