Engaging in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, China Railway 19 Bureau Group Mining Investment, a Chinese firm, has stepped up by supplying vital infection prevention materials to its workforce at the Thar-block II coal-mining project in Tharparkar, Sindh. This development was reported by Gwadar Pro.
Notably, Pakistan, situated in South Asia, faced severe Covid-19 impacts during the pandemic. Ensuring the health and safety of workers is a paramount concern for all China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) endeavors.
In a swift response to safeguard their staff's well-being and alleviate concerns, the company promptly reached out to local suppliers in Karachi to establish a supply chain strategy.
The report indicates that crucial medical supplies, including disposable masks, protective coveralls, safety goggles, and disinfectants, were dispatched to the project. Remarkably, this coal mining initiative has provided employment opportunities to over 800 local villagers.
Thanks to their effective and timely pandemic prevention measures, all workers remain in good health, and the project continues to operate smoothly.
This project, Pakistan's inaugural large-scale open-pit coal mine, holds significant importance within the broader Thar integrated coal mine and power project under CPEC.
Moreover, the coal resources from this endeavor have been harnessed for electricity generation, contributing 660 MW of power capacity since March 25, 2019, effectively addressing Pakistan's energy shortages, as highlighted in the report.
