In a significant move towards sustainable development, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), China's IBI International Group Co. Ltd., and Pakistan-based AGECO Pvt. Ltd. The signing marks a collaborative effort in four pivotal sectors: Electric Vehicles (EV), Green Energy, Precision Agriculture, and Training & Capacity Building. The agreement includes the mutual exchange of expertise and technology transfer to address modern global challenges.
This partnership is critical in the fight against climate change, energy shortages, and food insecurity. The initiative also supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 7 on clean energy, SDG 9 on industry and innovation, and SDG 13 on climate action.
The event was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps Ambassador of Turkmenistan, and ambassadors and diplomats from Jordan, Syria, Morocco, Yemen, Ethiopia, Iran, and Azerbaijan. Prominent attendees included Chairman of IPO Pakistan, Ambassador Amil, and Ambassador Moin ul Haque, advisor to IBI.
Ambassador Dr. Nafees Zakaria, Executive Director of COMSATS, praised the visionary legacy of Professor Abdus Salam and reaffirmed COMSATS' commitment to leveraging scientific knowledge for practical, real-world impact. He commended Engr. Aslam Azad, CEO of AGECO, for developing homegrown EV technology aimed at reducing emissions in the transport sector.
Dr. Zakaria also highlighted COMSATS’ innovations such as the Nano Tech Lab and Telehealth Clinics, showcasing tangible progress in science-based solutions for member countries.
Chairman of IBI International Group, Mr. Ibrahim Munir, emphasized the Group’s diverse expertise in sectors like energy, health, defense, and smart technologies. He spotlighted the Belt and Road Economic and Trade Centre (BRETC) as a cornerstone initiative aimed at enhancing regional trade and connectivity under China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
