In a landmark step towards green transportation, Chinese manufacturer Yutong has introduced a new wave of electric mobility in Pakistan with the debut of four advanced electric and hybrid bus models built specifically for the country's urban and climatic conditions. These vehicles, showcased during a high-profile launch event in Lahore, feature Yutong’s pioneering DMT (Direct Motor Drive) and YEA (Yutong Electric Architecture) technologies, designed to thrive in Pakistan’s heat, monsoons, and densely populated urban areas.
The event also marked a historic agreement between Yutong and Pakistan’s Wah Industries Limited (WIL) for the delivery of 400 electric buses — the largest order of new energy vehicles in the nation’s history. This monumental deal represents a significant leap in Pakistan’s strategy to shift towards sustainable, climate-resilient public transportation.
Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan, speaking at the launch, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to climate policy implementation. “The transition to electric buses is a cornerstone in our climate strategy, bringing us closer to cleaner and more efficient urban transport systems,” he stated.
Yutong, already holding a commanding 70% share in Pakistan’s premium bus market with over 3,000 buses deployed since 2008, reinforces its leadership with the introduction of models H9, H12, E9, and E12PRO. Each model is equipped to handle local challenges and supported by the expanded EnRoute+ service network, ensuring smooth operations across the country.
China’s growing influence in sustainable transport technology finds strong ground in Pakistan’s evolving mobility landscape. With this major rollout, Yutong not only supports Pakistan’s clean energy goals but also sets a new benchmark for future-focused urban transportation.
