Pakistan's exports of knitted and crocheted garments—including jerseys, cardigans, pullovers, and waistcoats—to China have recorded a robust 11% increase in the first five months of 2025. According to the latest data released by China Customs, export value reached $4.30 million, up from $3.87 million during the same period last year.
This upward trend underlines Pakistan’s expanding role in China’s apparel market, especially in mid-range and winterwear categories. Experts attribute the growth to improved production standards, advanced dyeing and finishing techniques, and greater adherence to Chinese quality certifications.
“Pakistani exporters have embraced modern finishing processes that appeal to Chinese consumers, particularly in terms of comfort and durability for winter garments,” said Mohammad Azhar, a trade analyst based in Lahore.
The majority of exports are concentrated in China’s eastern provinces, where Zhejiang and Jiangsu lead the import volumes. Jiangsu Province alone imported over $2.79 million worth of Pakistani knitwear, followed by Zhejiang and Henan. Much of the demand is driven by private-label brands and e-commerce platforms searching for affordable sourcing options outside of China.
Pakistan’s competitive edge is further supported by the second phase of the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA-II), which grants zero-tariff access to many textile products. Trade and Investment Counsellor Ghulam Qadir emphasized that while these benefits are significant, further growth will depend on diversifying product lines and investing in creative design.
Environmental concerns are also shaping China’s textile market. Mohammad Azhar noted a growing demand for sustainable and eco-friendly clothing. He added that if Pakistani exporters can align with China's green standards—such as using recycled yarn and eco-conscious production—Pakistan stands a strong chance to tap into the high-end segment of the Chinese market.
With the winter season approaching, analysts predict continued momentum for Pakistan’s knitwear exports throughout the second half of 2025.
