PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Vision for Gwadar Airport as a Commercial Hub

New Gwadar Airport to Boost Pakistan's Economy: PM Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently emphasized the transformative potential of the New Gwadar International Airport, located in Pakistan's southwest Balochistan province. According to Sharif, this world-class, China-aided infrastructure will unlock substantial economic opportunities, positioning Pakistan as a significant commercial hub for trade and investment.

The state-of-the-art airport boasts a 4F-grade terminal designed to accommodate the largest civil aircraft. Its impressive 3,658-meter-long runway, 75 meters wide, is a testament to cutting-edge engineering standards, providing a solid foundation for future growth. Officially completed in 2024, the airport marks a milestone in Pakistan's infrastructure development.

Addressing the challenges of previous connectivity, the airport is set to improve regional economic prospects by facilitating modern airline operations, strengthening Gwadar’s role as a key transshipment hub linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Sharif further emphasized that this initiative is aligned with Pakistan’s goals for export-driven growth, contributing to an expected record-breaking increase in remittances, projected to reach 35 billion U.S. dollars by July 2024.

Launched in 2013, CPEC is pivotal in connecting Gwadar Port with China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, laying the groundwork for enhanced bilateral trade and regional cooperation.
