CPEC: Connecting Pakistan to Global Economic Opportunities

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, during his recent visit to Quetta, the capital of Balochistan, emphasized the vital role of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in shaping Pakistan's economic future. He highlighted the corridor’s significance as a cornerstone for regional connectivity and national economic development.

Sharif stated that CPEC projects are progressing rapidly, with major advancements seen in various sectors such as energy, transportation, and industrial development. One of the key milestones in this initiative is the commencement of flight operations at the China-aided New Gwadar International Airport, which will enhance connectivity for Balochistan with the rest of Pakistan and the world.

Focusing on the future potential of Gwadar port, Sharif reiterated that the port would be a game-changer for Balochistan, positioning the province as a key trade hub. He noted that Gwadar’s strategic location would facilitate trade links between Pakistan, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and beyond.

Launched in 2013 as a flagship project under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, CPEC aims to bolster energy, transport, and industrial sectors in its first phase. With the expansion into agriculture and livelihoods in its next phase, CPEC continues to offer immense growth potential for Pakistan.
