Ahsan Iqbal, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, underscored the pivotal role of the digital economy in ensuring the sustainable development of the country. Speaking at a panel discussion titled "Industrialization & Digital Era Connectivity," organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), Minister Iqbal emphasized the transformative impact of industrialization and digital connectivity on global progress and economic growth.
The occasion marked Minister Iqbal's four-day official visit to China, coinciding with the special commemorative 12th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) celebrating the decade-long achievements of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Minister Iqbal highlighted the significant milestones of CPEC, emphasizing its role in fostering economic growth, infrastructure development, and regional connectivity.
In his address, Minister Iqbal stressed the need for harmonizing digital policies and standards through stronger collaboration in multilateral forums. He noted that digital connectivity has revolutionized communication and collaboration in industrial sectors, enabling businesses to reach global customers through e-commerce platforms and online marketplaces. Minister Iqbal highlighted "E-Pakistan" as a crucial element of the 5Es framework recently launched by the Planning Ministry.
Furthermore, he pointed out that digital connectivity has expanded businesses' access to larger markets beyond geographical boundaries, generating substantial data from production processes, customer interactions, and market trends. Minister Iqbal recently established a Steering Committee comprising IT and private sector experts to implement digital transformation and boost digital exports in the country.
Highlighting the synergy of industrialization and digital connectivity, Minister Iqbal emphasized the newfound opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. He cited key government initiatives, including the establishment of National Centers in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Automation & Robotics, Big Data & Cloud Computing, Quantum Computing, and Nanotechnology.
Acknowledging China's remarkable contributions to industrialization, Minister Iqbal encouraged developing nations to draw lessons from China's experience. He praised China's economic growth and technological advancements, citing substantial investments in infrastructure, including transportation networks, energy systems, and telecommunications. Minister Iqbal highlighted Pakistan's benefits from CPEC's infrastructure development, enhancing connectivity and facilitating industrial growth within the country.
