Equipping Gwadar’s youth with global digital economy skills

Chinese Faculty Join PCTVI Gwadar to Teach AI and E-Commerce

The Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute (PCTVI) at the University of Gwadar has launched admissions for short-term digital skills courses, including artificial intelligence, e-commerce, freelancing, and Python programming. Supported by Chinese faculty, the initiative aims to prepare local youth for opportunities emerging in the digital economy under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The three-month programmes cover a wide range of areas such as data analytics, generative AI, mobile app development, digital marketing, and more. Faculty members from the Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology (SICT) in China are joining Pakistani instructors to deliver specialised training, ensuring quality learning and fostering stronger educational cooperation between the two countries.

According to officials, the programme will benefit students from Balochistan and beyond by providing them with in-demand skills vital for trade, freelancing, and innovation. “With Chinese faculty on board, this initiative directly contributes to creating economic opportunities for youth,” said Omer J Baloch, a faculty member from BUITEMS who hails from Gwadar.

PCTVI, established as a flagship CPEC project, has evolved from a vocational training hub into a centre for modern digital education. Its facilities include ICT-enabled classrooms, computer labs, a digital library, and an auditorium for conferences and workshops. The institute is also offering free transport for female students in Gwadar, hostel facilities for those from other districts, and financial assistance through scholarships, stipends, and tuition fee waivers.

Admissions are currently open for students with matriculation or intermediate qualifications, giving them an opportunity to become part of Gwadar’s growing role in global trade and the digital economy.
