President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting global automobile companies in advancing sustainable transport and green innovation. He assured full government policy support for the introduction of new energy vehicles, electric buses, and the local production of key components.
The President made these remarks during a meeting with Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holding and Chery Automobile, in Shanghai on Tuesday. He praised Chery’s growing interest in Pakistan and expressed gratitude for the company’s briefing on its international operations and technological breakthroughs.
President Zardari particularly welcomed Chery’s plans to introduce electric buses and pursue localization, highlighting that such efforts would not only generate employment opportunities for Pakistan’s youth but also accelerate the country’s transition toward a cleaner, more sustainable transport ecosystem.
Encouraging deeper collaboration, the President invited Chery to explore joint ventures in electric buses, mini trucks, renewable energy solutions, and charging infrastructure. He also pointed to new areas of cooperation in manufacturing, mineral resources, and energy storage technologies.
Mr. Yin Tongyue briefed the Pakistani delegation on Chery Auto’s global presence, technological innovations, and achievements in international markets. The meeting was attended by First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Senator Saleem Mandviwalla.
