Strategic Partnership to Enhance EV Technology in Pakistan

Pakistan, China Partner to Boost EV Production

A major step towards advancing electric mobility in Pakistan was taken as Shanghai Launch Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. (LAUNCH) and Yousuf Dewan Companies (YDC) signed an agreement to boost electric vehicle (EV) production. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed in Beijing on February 22, aims to introduce cutting-edge EV technology and establish a strong domestic manufacturing base.

YDC, a key player in Pakistan’s automobile industry, will collaborate with LAUNCH to develop modern EVs utilizing the Chinese firm’s expertise in design, innovation, and battery technology. The agreement includes setting up a completely knocked-down (CKD) assembly unit for battery electric vehicles (BEVs), producing right-hand and left-hand drive models for both local sales and exports.

Beyond vehicle production, the partnership will focus on EV innovation, battery life cycle management, and recycling solutions. Discussions are also underway to explore a joint venture for manufacturing and scaling BEV production in Pakistan.

This collaboration marks a milestone in Pakistan’s journey toward sustainable transportation, aligning with the government’s broader initiatives to promote clean energy and green mobility solutions. Experts believe the move will accelerate EV adoption, reduce carbon emissions, and attract further investments in the automotive sector.
