China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, emphasized the importance of building an open growth corridor to boost regional economies and connectivity during his address at the first concrete date ceremony of the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit-5 (C-5). This project is set to generate 40,000 jobs directly and indirectly at its peak construction phase.
He highlighted Pakistan's unique geographical and resource advantages, which, combined with China's technology, capital, and market experience, offer immense potential for exploring third-party markets. Recent statistics from the State Bank of Pakistan revealed that 41% of direct investment in Pakistan over the past five months came from China, demonstrating the vitality of bilateral cooperation.
Ambassador Jiang reaffirmed China's commitment to high-quality development through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), focusing on both signature infrastructure projects and public welfare initiatives. The goal is to consolidate traditional areas of cooperation while expanding into emerging sectors, fostering an upgraded CPEC version.
Projects like the Suki Kinari Hydropower Station, worth $2 billion, and the year-round operational Khunjerab-Sost Pass exemplify the resilience and achievements of the partnership. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts to expand non-CPEC initiatives alongside CPEC, leveraging Pakistan's industrial strengths to ensure sustainable growth.
He expressed optimism for continued progress, envisioning deeper infrastructure connectivity, standardized operations, and strengthened people-to-people ties. These efforts, he noted, will not only drive economic benefits but also provide significant social advancements for both nations.
