Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, held a key meeting with Jiang Yi, Secretary General of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), on Tuesday to discuss Chinese investment and technical collaboration in Pakistan’s railway sector.
The discussions centred on enhancing freight operations and developing railway infrastructure under the Build–Operate–Transfer (BOT) model. Minister Abbasi highlighted that Pakistan Railways has already finalized an agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for the Karachi–Rohri section and is actively exploring Chinese cooperation for the Rohri–Peshawar, Nokundi–Gwadar, and ML-2 (Attock–Rohri) segments.
He emphasised that Chinese participation could significantly modernize freight management, improve logistics operations, and strengthen Pakistan’s role as a key regional transit hub. Both parties agreed to continue discussions in the coming months to advance investment opportunities and technology transfer in the railway sector.
