Pakistan's highest legislative bodies, namely the National Assembly and the Senate, came together to approve the Gwadar Port Authority (Amendment) Bill 2021, securing the support of a majority of their elected representatives.
This pivotal legislation pertains to the modification of the 77 sections within Pakistan's constitution that concern the Gwadar Port Authority. The core structure of the board remains unchanged, comprising key members such as the Chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority, the Joint Secretary of Communications, the Chairman of the National Highway Authority, the Chairman of the Coastal Development Authority, Government of Balochistan, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, the Additional Chief Secretary (Development) of the Government of Balochistan, a representative from the Quetta Chambers of Commerce and Industry, two members nominated by the Federal Government, including a Finance Division representative, the General Manager of Railways, and the Director General of Ports & Shipping.
