In the first half of 2025, Pakistan's exports of fish flours and meals to China soared by 27%, showcasing rising demand and Pakistan’s growing competitive edge in the global animal feed market. According to data released by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC), Pakistan shipped 25.13 million kilograms of fish meal products to China between January and June, reaching a total value of $23.75 million.
This performance marks a considerable improvement compared to the same period in 2024, when the export value stood at $18.70 million. Experts attribute this growth primarily to Pakistan’s highly competitive pricing. Owais Mir, an industry analyst, noted that Pakistan offered one of the lowest average prices in the market at $0.95 per kilogram, making it an attractive choice for Chinese importers seeking economical animal feed solutions.
In comparison, countries like Denmark maintained significantly higher price points. Danish fish meal exports to China averaged $1.88 per kilogram, with total exports amounting to $2.89 million during the same timeframe.
With China’s increasing demand for high-protein animal feed, Pakistan’s fish meal industry is expected to maintain strong momentum. Its strategic geographic location, price competitiveness, and deepening bilateral trade ties—especially under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative—are contributing factors to this upward trajectory.
Industry stakeholders also highlight that continued improvements in product quality and sustainability practices could open even greater trade opportunities in the coming years.
