In a significant move aimed at enhancing city safety, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) granted approval on Monday for the Gwadar Safe City Project (Phase-1), allocating Rs4.966905 billion to this endeavor. This initiative was among the ten development projects greenlit during the CDWP meeting, presided over by Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Professor Ahsan Iqbal.
Spearheaded by the Government of Balochistan, the Gwadar Safe City Project seeks to transform Gwadar into a secure urban environment, particularly focusing on strategic areas, while also bolstering the capabilities of law enforcement agencies in crime detection and investigation through evidence collection.
An official statement following the meeting highlighted Gwadar's current security challenges, which have led numerous Western governments to advise against travel to the city. The existing infrastructure falls short in meeting the security requirements of this port city. The Gwadar Safe City initiative aims to address these pressing security and communication challenges, benefiting various government stakeholders, including city administration, Gwadar police, and other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs).
Additionally, CDWP granted approval for three more projects in Balochistan:
#### Reconstruction of Turbat-Mand Road:
This project, spanning from M-8 to the Iranian Border-Radeeq, will be executed at a cost of Rs20,992.875 million.
#### Construction of Pun Panjgur-Gichak-Awaran Road, District Awaran:
With an allocated budget of Rs29,638.353 million, this project will enhance connectivity in the Awaran District.
#### Development of Ziarat Town:
An investment of Rs5,558.545 million has been earmarked for the development of Ziarat Town, focusing on urban infrastructure enhancement.
These initiatives collectively represent a substantial commitment to addressing key development and security concerns in the region.
