Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has instructed authorities to fast-track the completion of all ongoing water supply projects in Gwadar, stressing the use of every available resource to provide timely relief to residents.
In a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta, immediate and long-term strategies to resolve Gwadar’s water crisis were discussed. Attendees included MPA Maulana Hidayat Ur Rehman, Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, and senior officials from development, finance, public health engineering, and power sectors, alongside Gwadar Port Authority and Gwadar Development Authority leadership.
The Chief Minister was briefed on the operational status of the Gwadar desalination plant, which had been working at limited capacity due to electricity shortages. Output is being increased from 300,000 to 600,000 gallons per day within three days, with alternative energy solutions planned for uninterrupted operation.
Bugti directed the rapid activation of water supply from Shadi Kaur Dam and completion of pipeline projects within 15 days, warning that any delay in delivering clean water would be unacceptable. He announced a coordination committee, led by the GPA Chairman, to provide daily progress updates.
Highlighting the link between water scarcity and extended power outages caused by reduced electricity imports from Iran, the CM pledged to address the issue with federal authorities. He reaffirmed that ensuring clean drinking water for Gwadar was a top government priority and promised close personal monitoring of all project timelines.
