Northwest A & F University (NWAFU) in China has teamed up with Punjab's Ayub Agricultural Research Institute (AARI) and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to form a strategic partnership focused on the exchange of germplasm resources and the development of bio-health agricultural technologies.
This collaboration is set to significantly enhance scientific research and foster closer cooperation between China and Pakistan. At a late-August meeting held at NWAFU, representatives from the three institutions laid out plans to advance modern agricultural technologies, boost emerging agricultural industries, and enhance productivity, particularly in the cultivation of key crops such as sesame and pepper.
The partnership's initial success includes the establishment of model fields in Punjab that highlight the cultivation of organic products. Building on this, the collaboration will now expand to include talent development initiatives and technical training programs across all levels. These efforts aim to nurture skilled undergraduate students and vocational agricultural professionals, according to a report by China Economic Network on Tuesday.
Additionally, the partnership will focus on identifying vital agricultural products for trade, supporting the growth of key agricultural enterprises, and developing China-Pakistan demonstration parks. This initiative is expected to drive industrial growth through stronger trade relations.
The cooperation will also support short-term exchanges and training for Pakistani agricultural experts, with a view to promoting the demonstration of new agricultural technologies within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) framework.
