Punjab University’s Department of Archaeology and the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), have formalized a groundbreaking collaboration for archaeological research under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The agreement was finalized during a signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Vice Chancellor's office at Punjab University (PU).
This collaboration aims to focus on exploring and documenting the rich archaeological history of the ancient civilizations of the Indus Valley and China. Both institutions will work jointly on field projects to uncover the historical connections between these two civilizations. Through scientific exploration and excavation of potential archaeological sites, the long-term goals of this partnership include the conservation of significant historical sites, raising awareness, and fostering tourism development in the region.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including PU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Ali, Senior Researchers from CASS such as Dr. Tong Tao and Dr. Li Xinchen, as well as PU’s Director of External Linkages Dr. Yaamina Salman and Chairman of the Department of Archaeology Dr. M. Hameed.
By working together, the two institutions hope to create an enduring legacy of research and cultural exchange that will not only benefit archaeological scholarship but also promote the tourism potential of historical sites in Pakistan.
