MoU Signed to Modernise Pakistan's Vocational Training Sector

The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (FE&PT) has partnered with China's Tang International Education Group to modernise 20 vocational institutes in Karachi. This strategic collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aims to enhance infrastructure, set up IT and smart labs, and establish Centers of Excellence across Pakistan, as reported by Gwadar Pro.

The MoU was signed by Shafiq Hussain Khokhar, Director General Admin & Finance at the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), and Song Jianying, Chairman & CEO of Tang International’s Pakistan subsidiary. The ceremony was overseen by Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Minister for FE&PT, alongside Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong.

Dr. Siddiqui highlighted that Pakistan, with nearly 65% of its population under the age of 30, stands at a critical juncture. "Properly trained, our youth can uplift the nation and become a competitive global workforce," he noted. He emphasised the China-Pakistan friendship as a stabilising force for regional prosperity and reiterated the government's focus on skill development, especially in underprivileged urban areas.

Ambassador Jiang underscored China's commitment to transferring expertise in employment and vocational training to Pakistan. He emphasised the importance of turning Pakistan’s large youth population into a skilled workforce, drawing from China’s own experience where 50% of undergraduates secure quality employment upon graduation.

The collaboration marks a significant step in enhancing Pakistan's human capital and fostering stronger China-Pakistan ties. Prior to the MoU signing, the dignitaries visited the Job Fair 2025 at the Pak-China Friendship Centre in Islamabad, where over 20 Chinese companies offered more than 500 employment opportunities.
