Chinese Consul General Advocates IT Education for 200,000 Pakistani Students to Combat Unemployment


MULTAN: South Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Fawad Hashim Rabbani recently held discussions with Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren, focusing on key areas of mutual interest, including innovative agricultural practices and IT education. During the meeting, Zhao Shiren underscored the deep-rooted friendship between China and Pakistan, highlighting the success of various China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects and the upcoming inauguration of Gwadar International Airport.

To tackle youth unemployment and poverty, Zhao proposed a plan to send 200,000 Pakistani students to China for advanced IT training. Additionally, Huawei experts are set to provide specialized training in artificial intelligence and IT to the youth of South Punjab.

China also reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering Pakistan’s agricultural sector through corporate farming, seed research, and the introduction of modern irrigation systems. A Chinese company is expected to visit South Punjab to explore the potential for red chilli cultivation, while a South Punjab delegation will travel to China to learn about advancements in various industries.

Rabbani praised China’s efforts in education and agriculture, expressing a strong interest in adopting the Chinese model for regional development. He emphasized the potential of establishing a special industrial zone in Jalalpur Pirwala, as well as the importance of technology transfer to drive economic growth and reduce unemployment. South Punjab’s rich agricultural resources were also highlighted, particularly in areas like high-quality seed research, livestock breeding, and enhancing per-acre yield. Rabbani also discussed plans to promote the cottage industry and expand the “Zero Out of School Children” initiative in the region.
