In terms of the energy mix within these CPEC power projects, coal takes the lead with an impressive 8,220 MW, followed by hydropower at 3,428 MW, solar at 1,000 MW, and wind at 400 MW.
Among the successfully completed projects are some notable ones, such as the 1,320 MW Sahiwal Coal Power Plant, Port Qasim Power Plant, China-HUB Coal Power Plant, Engro Thar Power and Mine (with a capacity of 660 MW), HUBCO Thar (330 MW), Karot Hydropower (720 MW), Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park (400 MW), UEP Wind Farm (100 MW), Three Gorge Wind Power Projects (99 MW), Sachal Wind Farm (50 MW), and Hydro China Dawood Wind (50 MW).
Meanwhile, several projects are in various stages of development. These include the 1,320 MW Shanghai Electric (TCB-1) and Mine, 330 MW ThalNova Thar Power Plant, Azad Pattan Hydropower Project (700.7 MW), Kohala Hydropower (1,124 MW), Suki Kinari Hydropower (884 MW), Thar (Oracle) Coal Plant (1,320 MW), Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park (600 MW), Gwadar Coal/Solar Power Plant (300 MW), Cacho Wind Power (50 MW), and Westren Energy Pvt Ltd (50 MW). It's worth noting that the 330 MW ThalNova Thar Power Project is set to commence power generation by December, while the 1,320 MW Shanghai Electric project is scheduled to begin generation before the next summer season.
Looking ahead, there are six potential power projects expected to join the CPEC initiative in the future. These include the 640 MW Mahl Hydropower Project, 135 MW Taunsa Hydropower Project, 350 MW Toren More Hydropower Project, 260 MW Jameshill More Hydropower Project, and the 80 MW Phander Hydropower Project. These upcoming ventures hold promise for further enhancing the energy landscape within the CPEC framework.
