Pakistan Reaffirms Strategic Partnership with China Amid Diplomatic Engagements

Pakistan’s Foreign Office has reaffirmed the strength and reliability of its longstanding partnership with China, rejecting speculation surrounding recent diplomatic engagements between the two countries. In an official statement, the spokesperson emphasised that Islamabad and Beijing continue to maintain close and consistent communication on matters of shared strategic interest.

According to officials, both governments remain actively engaged through regular diplomatic channels, discussing key regional and bilateral issues. Recent interactions between senior officials were described as part of routine coordination, with a focus on enhancing cooperation and addressing evolving developments in the region, particularly in Afghanistan.

The clarification follows a recent telephone conversation between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The Foreign Office noted that the discussion covered a broad range of topics, reflecting the depth and scope of the relationship between the two nations. These exchanges are seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and security domains.

Developments in Afghanistan featured prominently in the discussions, a point that had already been highlighted during the ministry’s weekly media briefing. Both sides exchanged views on the changing political and security landscape in Afghanistan and explored opportunities for coordinated efforts to support peace and stability in the region.

Further reinforcing this engagement, China’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Yue Xiaoyong, recently visited Pakistan for consultations. His meetings with Pakistani officials focused on the situation in Afghanistan as well as broader regional dynamics, underscoring the shared interest of both countries in promoting stability and addressing common challenges.

Officials noted that Pakistan and China have maintained close dialogue on Afghanistan since the political transition in Kabul. This ongoing coordination reflects mutual concerns regarding security, economic recovery, and humanitarian conditions, as well as a shared commitment to constructive regional engagement.

Responding to reports suggesting a potential mediatory role by China between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Foreign Office urged observers to avoid drawing premature conclusions from routine diplomatic interactions. The spokesperson reiterated that such engagements are part of normal diplomatic practice and do not indicate any extraordinary developments.

Reaffirming the enduring relationship between the two countries, the statement described Pakistan and China as close friends and dependable partners. It added that continued high-level exchanges, including visits, calls, and institutional dialogue, highlight the depth of cooperation and the mutual commitment to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
