The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) took action on Thursday by approving an infusion of Rs. 250 million into the Aviation Division through a supplementary grant, bridging a significant expenditure gap.
Initially, the division was allocated funds that fell short by Rs. 700 million compared to its actual requirements, resulting in a fiscal year deficit of Rs. 637.927 million.
By December 31, 2021, the Aviation Division had expended Rs. 879.196 million from its allocated budget of Rs. 1,483 million, representing 59.28 percent of the total budget. This leaves a remaining balance of Rs. 603.805 million in the division's coffers.
Additionally, the ECC gave the green light to allocate a total of Rs. 2 billion for the Airports Security Force (ASF).
The ASF had requested Rs. 700.725 million for ammunition procurement at the upcoming New Gawadar International Airport (NGIA), set to become operational in August 2022. Furthermore, the force had sought an additional Rs. 1,695.566 million to cover employee-related expenses, resulting from a shortfall in funds allocation and the recruitment of new personnel.
Out of the ASF's total request of Rs. 2,396.566 million, the ECC approved a supplementary grant of Rs. 2 billion to meet the force's operational needs.
