ISLAMABAD: Gwadar International Airport is poised to commence both domestic and international flights starting in October, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan's infrastructure development.
On August 26, Defence Minister Khwaja Asif alluded to the imminent launch, suggesting that the airport could become operational in tandem with the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, scheduled for October 15-16 in Pakistan. The event is expected to attract top leaders from China and other member countries, making it an opportune moment for the airport's inauguration.
Designed to accommodate over one million passengers annually, Gwadar International Airport is a key component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Its operation is expected to usher in new opportunities for trade, tourism, and economic growth, not just for Pakistan but for the entire region.
