The inaugural flight departing from the new Gwadar International Airport is set to take off this December, thanks to the accelerated construction efforts at the site.
According to an announcement by a representative from the Gwadar Development Authority, the ambitious $246 million Gwadar International Airport, spread across a sprawling 4,300-acre expanse, is on track to become operational ahead of the September 2023 deadline.
In a bid to enhance healthcare services for the local populace, the government has expanded the Pak-China Friendship Hospital in Gwadar from a 50-bed facility to a cutting-edge 150-bed medical center. Commencing January of the coming year, the authority is committed to providing modern and free medical services to the residents of Gwadar.
Furthermore, the Gwadar Development Authority has ramped up efforts to implement a revitalization plan for the old town of Gwadar, aimed at modernizing infrastructure and delivering improved facilities to the city's inhabitants. Collaborating with the federal government, the authority is executing a Rs3.3 billion project dedicated to the rejuvenation of the old town, thereby transforming Gwadar into a modern city and alleviating local grievances.
The federal government will cover 67 percent of the total project cost, while the Balochistan government will contribute the remaining funds, as part of the Gwadar development plan. Key components of the plan include the expeditious completion of water drainage, utility supply, and distribution projects, ensuring a reliable source of clean drinking water for the city's residents.
Efforts are underway to address the pressing issue of water supply to Gwadar, with a desalination plant project advancing steadily and expected to resolve the water supply challenges within the next three months. The official also emphasized strict adherence to the Gwadar Master Plan during the implementation of development and public welfare initiatives in the city.
Various departments are leaving no stone unturned to accelerate the progress of infrastructure and development projects in Gwadar, ensuring their timely completion. The city presents a wealth of investment opportunities across sectors, and a comprehensive strategy will be devised to attract potential investors to contribute to Gwadar's growth.
