The New Gwadar International Airport is slated to begin operations on August 14, with final preparations nearly complete. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to preside over the soft launch, marking a historic moment for the region.
A special Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Karachi will make the inaugural landing, symbolizing the airport's operational readiness. Built at a cost of approximately Rs54.98 billion, the airport's runways meet international standards and can accommodate large aircraft like the Airbus A380.
This airport is a flagship project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), reflecting the strong partnership between China and Pakistan. Developed by the Civil Aviation Authority with the expertise of Chinese professionals, the airport stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts between the two nations.
While 96% of the operational facilities are already completed, the remaining work is expected to wrap up by December 2025. The New Gwadar International Airport is poised to enhance connectivity and drive economic growth in the region, reinforcing its importance in Pakistan’s expanding aviation sector.
