The New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) is making rapid progress, with over half of its construction already finished, as confirmed by the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA). Test flights are set to take off within the next two months.
The airport's total construction cost stands at Rs. 51.284 billion, with significant advancements in modern security installations being a top priority. Notably, 39 state-of-the-art baggage scanning machines have been installed to enhance passenger screening reliability.
NGIA, situated 26 km northeast of the existing Gwadar airport, holds great promise as a catalyst for the development of the Gwadar Peninsula and for bolstering trade between Pakistan and China.
In a noteworthy development, NGIA is anticipated to be inaugurated on Pakistan Day, 23rd March 2023, as requested during Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif's visit to Beijing, where Pakistan sought China's commitment to complete the airport by that date.
