Empowering Gwadar: PM Shehbaz's Vision for Solar Energy and Beyond

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled an exciting initiative to brighten the future of Gwadar's residents: the distribution of solar panels to households. Leading a meeting in Islamabad to assess progress on power transmission projects in Balochistan, he emphasized the federal government's commitment to providing this gift to the people of Gwadar, promising unwavering support for their needs.

In a bid to supercharge Gwadar Port's modernization, the prime minister also called for a strategic plan for both offshore and onshore wind power projects. His vision is clear: to guarantee uninterrupted power supply, making Gwadar Port a global marvel.

Moreover, Shehbaz Sharif set a stringent deadline for the completion of transmission lines in South Balochistan by December 2022, insisting on zero tolerance for project delays. He directed relevant departments to streamline long-term projects, focusing on reducing both time and cost.

The meeting saw the presence of key figures such as Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Power Engineer Khurram Dastgir, and senior officials. During the gathering, a comprehensive presentation detailed the progress of power transmission lines connecting Jeewani, Gwadar, Pasni, Ormara, Panjgur, and Iran.

Within six months, the government aims to enhance electricity supply to Gwadar by an additional 100 megawatts from Iran, raising the total to 260 MW. Furthermore, the completion of the Khuzdar-Panjgur transmission line in December this year will inject an additional 90 MW into the region.

The Hub-Ormara transmission line, currently under development, promises to deliver an extra 200 MW of electricity upon completion. These developments signify a significant step toward resolving the persistent energy shortages that have plagued Gwadar city.

By October 2023, the long-standing energy challenge in Gwadar will be history, thanks to the 300 MW coal-fired power plant. This plant, a vital component of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), will cater to the needs of approximately 150,000 local residents, aligning perfectly with Gwadar's 2050 Master Plan. Its role in ensuring a stable local power supply will be instrumental in the region's economic growth and urban expansion.
