QESCO and Gwadar Port Authority plan overhaul to end load-shedding

In a decisive meeting to address Gwadar’s long-standing electricity crisis, Gwadar Port Authority Chairman Noor ul Haq Baloch and Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) CEO Yousaf Shah reviewed urgent steps to stabilise power supply across the city. Key facilities, including the port, Free Zone, and the 1.2 MGD desalination plant, have been severely impacted by outages.

Chairman Baloch raised serious concerns about unannounced load-shedding, persistent voltage fluctuations, and repeated transformer breakdowns that continue to disrupt daily life, water distribution, and Gwadar’s fishing industry. He emphasised that a permanent and coordinated solution, with support from federal authorities and QESCO Balochistan, is urgently required.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to modernise Gwadar’s outdated power infrastructure. Plans include replacing worn-out transmission lines and transformers to guarantee a more reliable electricity flow for residents and businesses. To strengthen technical expertise, QESCO staff will receive specialised training at the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute (PCTVI).

CEO Yousaf Shah confirmed procurement of 80 new transformers, with 20 set aside as backup units, along with the replacement of deteriorated wires and poles. He further announced targeted training for staff across the Makran Division to align with Gwadar’s unique energy needs. Additionally, a study tour at PCTVI has been scheduled for QESCO trainees, underscoring the commitment to build a sustainable and efficient power network for Gwadar.
