New Pakistan-China TVET Cooperation to Empower Students and Professionals

Thousands of Pakistani students and professionals are set to benefit from new vocational and educational opportunities after Pakistan’s National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) signed multiple landmark agreements with leading Chinese institutions during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China.

The agreements, finalised at the second Pakistan–China B2B Investment Conference, aim to modernise Pakistan’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector across disciplines such as engineering, healthcare, agriculture, information technology, and digital skills. According to NAVTTC, the MoUs will introduce Chinese curriculum standards, dual diploma programmes, and digital education platforms in Pakistan, enabling access to global markets and employment.

Planned initiatives include joint colleges, training bases, and cultural exchange projects. Gansu Vocational College of Nonferrous Metallurgy will help establish the “Bailie Workshop” Overseas Engineering Technology College, alongside a China–Pakistan International Education Digital Platform to promote academic mobility.

Healthcare education will be strengthened through partnerships with Sichuan Vocational College of Health & Rehabilitation and Pingxiang Health Vocational College, which will support nursing and rehabilitation technology training, while also setting up a “Chinese + Vocational Skills Training Base.”

Technology cooperation is also expanding. Guangzhou Polytechnic University will collaborate with the National University of Technology on software development, while Wuhan Technical College of Communications will provide training for over 30 Pakistani professionals and host cultural exchange activities.

Agricultural agreements include initiatives with Jiangxi Agricultural Engineering Vocational College for medicinal herb cultivation, Xinjiang Agricultural Vocational & Technical University for veterinary and animal husbandry training, and Jiangxi Vocational College of Industry & Engineering to establish the “BATIE Friendship Language Centre” in Pakistan, which will teach Chinese language, AI, and new energy technologies.

NAVTTC noted that these agreements represent one of the most comprehensive TVET cooperation frameworks between Pakistan and China, set to benefit thousands of Pakistanis annually through training, academic exchanges, and digital learning programmes.
