A high-powered Chinese business delegation has unveiled plans for a $1 billion medical city in the Dhabeji Special Economic Zone (SEZ), situated in Thatta, Sindh. During their visit, the 12-member delegation, accompanied by Sindh's Special Assistant on Investment and Public-Private Partnerships, Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, toured various sites in Dhabeji SEZ.
According to Sindh’s Investment Department, the delegation expressed a keen interest in investing in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, solar and wind energy, electronic vehicles, food and beverages, and fertilizers. Notably, the plan for the medical city stands out as a flagship project, reflecting the strategic collaboration between China and Pakistan under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The delegation also explored opportunities to establish factories for solar plate manufacturing, solar inverters, and fertilizer production using coal-based processes. Qamar highlighted the Dhabeji SEZ’s pivotal role in industrial development, offering strategic advantages due to its connectivity to ports, roads, and railways.
Senior officials, including Secretary Investment Sindh Raja Khurram Shahzad and CEO Sindh Economic Zone Management Company Abdul Azim Aqili, were present to welcome the delegation and discuss potential partnerships. This initiative is expected to bolster industrial growth, create jobs, and strengthen the China-Pakistan economic relationship.
