$250 Million MoUs Signed Between Pakistan and China for Medical Equipment

Pakistan and China recently signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth $250 million to strengthen ties in the medical equipment and surgical instrument industry. The agreements were finalized during a B2B matchmaking conference in Beijing, fostering collaboration between Pakistani and Chinese enterprises.

The Silk Road Assistance Industrial Internet Platform facilitated the signing of these MoUs with Pakistan’s Sawuat, a dental and surgical instrument manufacturer, and China’s UPH Biopharma, a leading pharmaceutical company. This partnership aims to promote trade, technology transfer, and joint ventures, encouraging Chinese investments in Pakistan’s medical sector.

Sunny Yang, CTO of the Silk Road platform, emphasized Pakistan’s strategic benefits, including tax incentives, cost-effective production, and European-standard compliance. He noted that Chinese technology could enhance Pakistan’s branding and competitiveness in the global value chain.

Pakistan, recognized for its fifth-largest medical manufacturing hub in Sialkot, exports 80% of its production globally. Its low production costs, abundant raw materials, and strategic geographic location offer immense opportunities for international investors.

Zhou Hui, Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, highlighted Pakistan’s strengths in medical consumables and underscored the importance of understanding Chinese regulations for smooth market entry.

Additionally, Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz, President of the China Pakistan Medical Association, announced plans to establish a China-Pakistan Friendship Hospital and a joint medical technology park in Pakistan. A new agreement was also signed for technology transfer and trade with a Hangzhou-based company.

Over 120 companies attended the event, organized by the Pakistani Embassy in China. It concluded the first series of seven B2B events initiated after the Pakistani Prime Minister’s recent visit to China. Another series focusing on 14 priority sectors is set to begin next month.
