China's Three Gorges Technology & Economic Development Company (TGDC) has garnered praise and appreciation from governmental authorities in Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) for their exceptional work on the 720MW Karot Hydropower Project, a significant venture within the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). TGDC-5, a subsidiary of TGDC, received letters of commendation from various officials in December 2021.

These letters commend TGDC for its outstanding performance, commitment to quality, and dedication to fostering Pak-China friendship. Notably, TGDC utilized top-notch materials and modern construction techniques, resulting in impressive structures like the pedestal suspension bridge of Poona and the main AJK Bridge at Azad Pattan.

The company's contributions extend beyond construction excellence. It has actively engaged and employed locals, offering them opportunities to earn a livelihood. This commitment to the community has been particularly appreciated by authorities in the region.

Assistant Commissioner Kahuta emphasized the national significance of the CPEC project, highlighting its socio-economic benefits. Deputy Commissioner Sudhnuti extended gratitude for TGDC-5's positive contributions and its role in promoting Pak-China friendship.

Despite facing challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic and flood control issues, TGDC-5 has made substantial progress on the Karot Hydropower Project and related infrastructure, including the Azad Pattan Rawalpindi Road. Officials anticipate the timely completion of these endeavors.

The Karot Hydropower Project, located on the Jhelum River, is a 720MW undertaking led by the Karot Power Company as part of CPEC. China Three Gorges South Asia Investment Ltd successfully achieved financial closure for the project on March 8, 2017, with a levelized tariff of Rs 7.68 per unit and a total cost of $1.7 billion. The project is set for completion in April 2022.
