A delegation comprising officials from the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Descon Engineering Ltd. departed for China on July 6 to attend a specialised hydropower operations training programme at the renowned Shandong College of Water Conservancy. This international training initiative is part of the post-completion activities related to the Kurram Tangi Dam project in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Organised by Chinese firms UNI International and ITMC, the programme aims to enhance technical expertise and operational efficiency for Pakistani engineers now responsible for managing hydropower systems. Yasser Shakoor, Director of Operations and Business Development at UNI International, emphasised the strategic value of this initiative for building technical capacity and deepening Pakistan-China collaboration in the energy sector.
This training, running until August 3, marks a significant milestone in fostering international knowledge exchange and boosting the skills of engineers working on large-scale hydropower infrastructure in Pakistan. WAPDA, a key public institution for water and energy development, along with private sector leader Descon, are central to the nation’s renewable energy ambitions.
