Pakistan and China to Define Future of CPEC Phase-2

To ensure the success of Phase-2 of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistan and China have agreed to coordinate high-level workshops aimed at outlining the future direction of this vital initiative. The Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, in collaboration with China’s National Development and Reform Commission, will bring together experts from both nations to focus on defining the strategic goals and specific areas of cooperation.

Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, met with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, to discuss the continued progress of CPEC and the key projects within Phase-2. This included accelerating the development of significant infrastructure projects such as the Karachi-Hyderabad section of Main Line-1 (ML-1) and the Karakoram Highway (Thakot-Raikot Section).

Minister Iqbal emphasized that Pakistan remains fully committed to the safety and security of Chinese nationals and projects within the country, particularly following the recent attack on Chinese citizens in Karachi. Pakistan’s government is taking swift action to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

Both sides also discussed the holistic development of Gwadar, with a shared commitment to advancing its port and free zone. Ambassador Jiang reiterated China's readiness to cooperate with Pakistan on key sectors like agriculture, minerals, and industrial development. This collaboration comes in the context of the broader framework of CPEC Phase-2, which aims to align both countries' strategic interests, including the “Five Corridors” and the “Eight Points Roadmap of BRI.”
