PM Shehbaz Urges Timely CPEC Project Execution

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has underscored the importance of timely execution of the next phase of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, emphasising that this would strengthen the longstanding economic and strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.

In a meeting with Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC), PM Shehbaz acknowledged China’s consistent support for Pakistan and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to its One China policy and strategic cooperative relationship with Beijing. He conveyed warm regards to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese leadership, reiterating that Pakistan’s bilateral relations with China would remain steadfast under all circumstances.

Highlighting 2026 as a milestone year, the prime minister invited President Xi for an official visit to Pakistan later this year. He noted the significance of marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and referenced a series of high-level visits that have already taken place, including Deputy PM Ishaq Dar’s visit to Beijing and the interior minister’s trip to Shanghai. A visit by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq is also anticipated soon.

Vice Minister Sun Haiyan thanked the prime minister for the warm reception and affirmed China’s dedication to deepening ties across political, economic, and social sectors. She also praised PM Shehbaz for his leadership in uniting political forces and advancing governance reforms, highlighting China’s pride in Pakistan’s diplomatic achievements.

Emphasising party-to-party relations, Sun Haiyan noted that the Communist Party of China remains committed to enhancing cooperation with Pakistan’s political institutions through structured inter-party mechanisms. The meeting was also attended by Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi, PM’s Special Representative for China Zafaruddin Mahmood, and Foreign Secretary Amina Baloch.
