The Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan (AWKUM) has entered into a formal partnership with Shanghai’s Chenshan Botanical Garden to promote collaboration in botanical sciences and agriculture. The agreement, signed through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), aims to strengthen academic ties, foster joint research projects, and create platforms for mutual learning between the two institutions.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Fazal Said, Associate Professor in the Department of Agriculture at AWKUM, during his participation in the International Training Programme on Botanical Garden Management and Development, held in Shanghai from September 1–20, 2025. The programme, sponsored by Chenshan Botanical Garden and the International Association of Botanical Gardens, brings together global experts to share insights on sustainable development, conservation, and botanical garden management.
Dr. Said highlighted that the partnership will offer AWKUM students and faculty opportunities for exchanges, participation in international seminars and symposiums, and access to technical expertise from China. As part of its long-term vision, AWKUM also plans to establish a large botanical garden on its own land, further supporting research, education, and environmental sustainability in Pakistan.
