Pakistan and China have pledged to strengthen their collaborative efforts in bolstering the security of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The strategic Gwadar Port will serve as a pioneering endeavor in this endeavor.
This commitment emerged following the conclusion of the 9th Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting dedicated to CPEC. Leading their respective delegations were Khusro Bakhtyar, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Reform from Pakistan, and Ning Ji Zhe, the Vice Chairman of the National Development & Reform Commission from China.
The significance of security in the CPEC development was unequivocally underscored in official JCC documents. Both nations concurred on the imperative need for vigilance against potential terrorist threats. China extended appreciation for the dedicated security measures provided by the Government of Pakistan for CPEC initiatives, acknowledging the reinforcement of security through the establishment of Special Security Division (SSD) units in the North and South regions.
Pakistan assured its commitment to take all necessary steps to safeguard Chinese personnel and CPEC ventures. Meanwhile, China affirmed its commitment to collaborate closely with Pakistan in mitigating any threats to CPEC. Additionally, China pledged continued support for enhancing Pakistan's capacity in this regard.
Recognizing the role of technology in elevating security efficiency, both sides agreed to a comprehensive application of technology to fortify CPEC's security framework. The collaboration will manifest with Gwadar Port as a pioneering pilot project. Moreover, the two nations committed to bolstering joint security cooperation across all aspects of CPEC. These developments reflect the shared determination to ensure the security and success of this vital economic corridor.
