China-Pakistan Partnership to Boost Flaxseed Production and Cut Edible Oil Imports

China and Pakistan Forge New Agricultural Alliance to Enhance Flaxseed Production and Reduce Oil Imports

LANZHOU, Aug. 14 (China Economic Net) – The newly launched Flaxseed Research and Innovation Hub, a collaboration between China's Gansu Academy of Agricultural Sciences (GAAS) and Pakistan's Sindh Agriculture University (SAU), is set to revolutionize agricultural practices and reduce dependence on imported edible oil. The hub will focus on advancing flaxseed cultivation through improved variety selection, breeding, and technology. Zhao Wei from GAAS emphasized the shared challenge of increasing domestic flaxseed output, noting that while Pakistan imports significant amounts of edible oil, China processes large quantities of flaxseeds, with a substantial portion being imported. The partnership aims to address these challenges by leveraging each country's strengths, with ongoing research and successful trials of new flax varieties. Future initiatives will include expanding research to other crops and fostering deeper agricultural cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
