The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai is more than just an annual exhibition; it’s a testament to China’s enduring commitment to a global economy, remarked Shehzad Ahmad Khan, Pakistani Consul General in Shanghai. Held from November 5 to 10, this year’s CIIE spans over 420,000 square meters and hosts 3,496 exhibitors from 129 countries, including 297 Fortune Global 500 companies, China Economic Net (CEN) reports.
With representation from 152 countries and a focus on economic inclusivity, the event highlights China’s goal to foster collaboration and development with other nations. The National Pavilion Zone showcases 77 countries and serves as an avenue for high-quality products from developing countries to access the Chinese market, creating valuable trade links.
Pakistani exhibitors achieved record participation with two distinct pavilions: a national pavilion focused on enhancing the country’s image and a corporate pavilion highlighting consumer goods. This year, approximately 50 Pakistani companies from diverse sectors—including handicrafts, food, and surgical products—presented their offerings, aiming to establish and strengthen partnerships with Chinese businesses.
The CIIE offers Pakistan a unique chance to connect globally and expand its trade footprint, the consul general explained. Forums and sideline events also provide insights into the Chinese market, helping participants align with China’s growth models. The consul general views CIIE as essential for Pakistan’s industrial growth under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as Pakistani businesses explore opportunities within special economic zones.
With aspirations for a strengthened cultural and culinary presence and increased B2B exchanges, Pakistani representatives see CIIE as a strategic platform for enhancing economic and cultural ties between Pakistan and China.
