China’s First Sale of J-35 Stealth Fighters to Pakistan: A Game Changer

Pakistan has made plans to acquire 40 J-35s stealth fighter jets from its all-weather ally, China. This move, reported by the South China Morning Post, aims to significantly bolster Pakistan’s defense capabilities. The delivery of these fifth-generation warplanes is expected within two years. The J-35, China’s second indigenous fifth-generation stealth fighter, will mark a significant moment in military collaboration between Pakistan and China. The aircraft shares similarities with the US-made F-35, although with a key difference in engine configuration.

This agreement follows high-level military discussions between the two countries. General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, visited Pakistan to reinforce bilateral defense cooperation. In a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, both leaders focused on mutual interests, regional security, and counter-terrorism efforts. General Munir reiterated Pakistan's strong partnership with China, emphasizing its importance to both nations' security and stability.

The acquisition of J-35 stealth fighters is not only a leap in military technology for Pakistan but also strengthens China’s position as a major supplier of advanced military hardware. The sale signifies a shift in regional defense dynamics, with Pakistan acquiring cutting-edge technology to support its defense strategies.
